What stories of trade and travel are hidden in our everyday items? A teaspoon, a phone, a pair of shoes – these objects have shadow lives filled with other people and other places.
In conjunction with Carmen Ansaldo’s SPARK NT exhibition Groundswell: recent movements within art and territory, I presented a workshop based on my exhibited artwork, Shadow Work.
Shadow WorkShop blended practical philosophy with hands on creative practice. In this two hour workshop participants explored their relationship to “Shadow Places” through reflective discussion and the creation of cyanotype shadow prints of everyday items. Through this process participants gained an understanding of Val Plumwood’s concept of Shadow Places, and it’s implications for our responsibilities to land and labour.
